Benedetta Carlini war die erste Äbtissin des Klosters vom "Orden der Mutter Gottes" in der toskanischen Stadt Pescia. Sie stirbt mit 71 Jahen
nachdem sie 35 Jahre im Gefängnis verbrachthatte. Die Historikerin Judith C. Brown findet die Akte dieser Mystikerin im Florentiner Staatsarchiv. Dies sind die Akte zum ersten uns bekannten Prozess um lesbische Liebe im Kloster bzw. um lesbische Liebe überhaupt.
